Tunnel Boring Machine Slewing Bearing
Product Details
When you're excavating tunnels through challenging geology, your equipment needs components that won't let you down. The Tunnel Boring Machine Slewing Bearing serves as the critical rotational interface in shield machines and TBMs, enabling precise cutter head positioning while supporting massive axial and radial loads. Our slewing bearings are engineered specifically for tunnel boring applications, combining high load capacity with smooth rotation even under extreme overturning moments. Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel and heat-treated to exacting standards, these bearings deliver the reliability your project demands. Whether you're working on subway construction, cross-river tunnels, or mountain railway projects, our product solutions provide the durability and precision your operation requires.
Our bearings are designed with double-row or multi-row ball configurations. This structure distributes loads evenly across the raceway. The integrated sealing system effectively prevents the ingress of mud and slurry, allowing your equipment to operate longer between maintenance intervals. Customized bolt hole patterns ensure a perfect fit with your specific machine model.
We offer a diameter range from 1200mm to 6000mm, covering the sizes of most shield machines currently in operation. Each bearing undergoes precision grinding on all mounting surfaces and raceways, guaranteeing reliable performance throughout its entire service life.

Features and Benefits
High-Strength Alloy Construction
We use 42CrMo steel as our primary material. This alloy provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The Tunnel Boring Machine Slewing Bearing maintains structural integrity under combined loading conditions. You get reliable performance in both soft soil and hard rock applications.
Advanced Heat Treatment Process
Raceway surfaces undergo induction hardening to HRC 55-60. This creates a wear-resistant surface layer. The core retains toughness through controlled quenching and tempering. Your bearing resists both surface wear and structural fatigue.
Precision-Ground Surfaces
All raceways and mounting faces receive precision grinding. This ensures tight dimensional tolerances. Smooth rotation reduces vibration and noise. Your cutter head maintains accurate positioning throughout the boring cycle.
Robust Sealing System
Special seal designs prevent abrasive slurry penetration. Internal lubrication stays clean longer. You extend maintenance intervals and reduce downtime. The bearing operates reliably in high-contamination environments.
Load Distribution Design
Multi-row ball configurations spread loads across wider contact areas. This reduces stress concentration. The bearing handles shock loads during breakthrough operations. You get longer service life even under variable loading.
Applications
· Earth Pressure Balance Shields: Urban subway tunnel construction where soil pressure control is critical
· Slurry Shields: Cross-river and undersea tunnels requiring pressurized face support
· Hard Rock TBMs: Mountain railway tunnels through solid rock formations
· Micro Shields: Municipal utility tunnel and pipeline installation projects
· Specialized Shield Equipment: Custom tunnel profiles and complex geological conditions
Installation Guide
Pre-Installation Inspection
1. Inspect all mounting surfaces on both the bearing and the host machine for debris, burrs, or damage.
2. Verify that the bolt hole patterns on the bearing and the mounting flange align correctly.
3. Examine the bearing raceways and seals for any damage that may have occurred during shipping or handling.
Mounting Procedure
1. Carefully lower the bearing onto the prepared mounting surface, ensuring it seats evenly.
2. Insert all bolts and hand-tighten them.
3. Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten the bolts gradually in a star (cross) pattern to the torque value specified by the bearing manufacturer. Perform the tightening in multiple stages (e.g., 50%, 80%, 100% of final torque) to ensure even clamping force and prevent ring distortion.
Alignment Verification
1. After final torquing, measure the axial and radial runout at the mounting interface to confirm it is within permissible limits.
2. Manually rotate the bearing to ensure smooth, unrestricted movement through a full 360 degrees.
3. For bearings with integrated gears, check that the gear mesh (if applicable) has the correct specified backlash.
Lubrication
1. Before initial operation, pump the recommended grease through all lubrication ports until fresh grease is seen purging from the seals.
2. Manually rotate the bearing several full revolutions to distribute the grease evenly throughout the raceways and rolling elements.

Maintenance and Care
Regular Inspection Schedule
l Seals: Inspect all seals every 500 operating hours for wear, cracks, or damage. Check for grease leakage or external contamination.
l Bolts: Check the torque of all mounting bolts monthly during the first six months of operation, then quarterly thereafter.
Lubrication Requirements
l Replenish grease at intervals determined by your specific operating conditions. Environments with high levels of abrasive contaminants (e.g., slurry) will require more frequent regreasing.
l Important: Use only the lithium-based or synthetic grease specified by the bearing manufacturer.
Performance Monitoring
l Noise: During normal operation, listen for any unusual grinding, clicking, or scraping noises.
l Rotation: Be alert to any noticeable increase in the force required to rotate the bearing.
l Action: Any abnormal signs should be investigated and addressed immediately to prevent further damage or failure.
Long-Term Storage
l If the bearing is to be stored for an extended period, apply a rust-preventive coating to all machined surfaces.
l Store the bearing in a clean, dry location away from corrosive chemicals or atmospheres.
Testing & Certification
Every bearing experiences comprehensive testing counting dimensional confirmation, fabric examination, and execution approval. Our quality confirmation conventions guarantee compliance with worldwide benchmarks counting Clamor, ISO, and GB details. Each product comes with point by point test reports and certification documentation.
