VLI200414-N Slewing Bearings — INA VLI Light Flanged 20 Series Internal Gear Ring

VLI200414-N Slewing Bearings are part of the INA VLI Light Flanged 20 series, consisting of a single row four-point contact ball slewing ring with internal gear. The ring has a 325 mm bore X 518 mm outer diameter X 56 mm height with a static axial load rating of 295 kN and weighs 27.3 kg. The internal gear (module 5, 67 teeth, 335 mm pitch circle diameter) allows the driving pinion to be positioned within the ring bore, providing compact pivot assemblies for sun trackers, rotary indexing tables and similar applications.

What Is the VLI200414-N?

The VLI200414-N Slewing Bearings is the flanged light version of the INA VLI series, based on the same 414 mm raceway diameter as the VSI200414-N and designed for weight-sensitive applications. The single-row, four-point contact ball construction enables one row of balls to take axial, radial, and tilting moment loads concurrently, which is beneficial in applications with limited installation area but complicated load combinations.

The internal gear teeth are cut on the inside of the bore. The driving pinion is thus within the ring, allowing a compact arrangement with no external gear protrusion. The flanged outer ring is bolted directly to the mounting framework without the requirement for a machining shoulder on the mating portion.

The VLI200414-N is about 4 kg lighter than the VSI200414-N on the same 414 mm raceway (27.3 kg vs. 31 kg). The VLI200414-N is a Standard_VL clearance version instead of a Standard_SL. The VSI200414-N has a greater static axial capacity (C0a = 660 kN vs. 295 kN). The VLI is the correct option if weight or envelope size is the major limitation. The VSI is the correct choice where maximum static capacity is desired.

Materials and Construction

The rings are made of 50Mn or 42CrMo4 alloy steel. The grades are a combination of core toughness with surface wear resistance. Raceways are induction hardened to 55-62 HRC to provide a fatigue-resistant contact surface while the core remains ductile under shock loading.

The rolling element is GCr15 bearing steel, which is the standard material used for slewing ring balls where the uniformity of hardness and the fatigue life are the important criteria.

Double-lip NBR seals seal oil and cut down entrance of contamination during outdoor operation. Rated working temperature range is −25 to +80 °C, which covers most outdoor PV tracker situations. For installations in locations where temperatures are consistently below −20 °C, check the grease provider for an appropriate low temperature synthetic substitute.

Typical Application Areas

Solar Tracker Drive Heads — The internal gear positions the drive pinion inside the pivot housing. The flanged outer ring mounts directly to the tracker bracket without additional machining. The lower weight compared to the standard VSI series is a practical consideration when the same pivot design is used across a large number of tracker rows.

Rotary Indexing Tables — The drive assembly stays within the table footprint, and the flange simplifies direct mounting to the base plate without a separate adapter ring.

Light Cranes and Jib Systems — Internal gear slewing rings are a common choice for compact slewing sections in light jib cranes and hoist trolleys where the pinion needs to be housed inside the slewing envelope.

Radar and Antenna Platforms — Routing the drive mechanism through the bore rather than around the outside helps protect gear engagement from direct weather exposure during continuous tracking rotation.

Medical Imaging Equipment — CT gantry pivots and similar imaging platforms use sealed four-point contact slewing rings to support smooth, controlled rotation in environments where particulate contamination is a concern.

Material Handling Carousels and AGV Turntables — Standard_VL radial clearance (0–0.5 mm) keeps free-running motion consistent under the light, variable loads typical of carousel and turntable applications.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between VLI200414-N and VSI200414-N?

A: Both are internal gear, four-point contact rings on a 414 mm raceway. The VLI200414-N is the flanged light series: 325 × 518 × 56 mm, 27.3 kg, C0a = 295 kN, Standard_VL clearance. The VSI200414-N is the standard series: 325 × 486 × 56 mm, 31 kg, C0a = 660 kN, Standard_SL clearance. Select the VLI when weight or envelope is the binding constraint; select the VSI when static axial capacity is the priority.

Q: What clearance and precision grades are available?

A: Standard_VL clearance is 0–0.5 mm radial. Precision classes P0, P6, and P5 are available. Reduced-clearance variants can be produced on request.

Q: What bolt grade is required for mounting?

A: High-strength bolts of grade 10.9 or 12.9 (ISO) are required. Ensure the unthreaded shank is located in the shear plane. The outer bolt circle uses 8 × 18 mm through-holes on a 490 mm circle; the inner ring uses 12 × M12 threaded holes on a 375 mm circle.

Q: How should the soft spot (S-mark) be positioned?

A: The S-mark should be placed in the non-load-bearing zone during installation to avoid localized raceway deformation under service loads.

Q: What precision classes are available for this model?

A: P0, P6, and P5 are standard options. P4 and reduced-clearance variants are available on request. Contact mia@hgb-bearing.com for confirmation on current stock precision grades.
